It was the year 2018, after dressing up with a two-piece trouser suit to Walter Carrington, I was denied a US visa. I thought working for a US company will make it easier for them to see I wasn’t running away. I wore the same trouser suit I wore when I interviewed for a role at this US company and got the job, so it was clearly a miracle suit, so I thought.
The consular at the US embassy handed me the blue rejection slip and said in a black American accent with her nose slightly raised to the right “You are not eligible to travel at this time”. Eweeee!!, after kaking (dressing) up like Nigerian ambassador to Hong Kong, you now did not give me visa. The rejection felt like an Edo man broke my heart. After I had imagined myself at the beach in Hawai, they now said I should be going to Ilashe beach, Iyanmi!!!.
The funny thing is, I saw this consular babe at the gym few days after this rejection and I was seriously praying that she doesn’t lose that weight 😩😩
After the visa rejection experience in 2018, I made up my mind to explore other countries that are mostly visa free or visa on arrival, I have applied for visas since the US rejection and have gotten approvals. Have I applied for US visa since the rejection? your guess is as good as mine.
Anyways, moving on. One of my heart desires is to demystify the myth around travel, people keep shouting “travel is expensive!!!!” Adaora, but ya human hair is 300k, that’s a trip to Ghana 👀
